Setting & Character

A classic Cornish fishing village harbour: commercial boats on Lighthouse Quay, visitors in the outer harbour, aquarium in the old RNLI house. Town and shops are immediate once you step ashore at East Quay.

Arrival by Sea

Pass east of Gwineas Rock unless you have local knowledge and a large-scale chart. Approach with the Victoria Pier lighthouse bearing west to clear unmarked Black Rock north-east of the North Pier. Enter between the piers; North Pier foundations cover at half tide. Orientation only — Admiralty 147 / 148. Call on VHF 14 before arrival if you can.

Choosing a Berth

Usual visitor berth is the inside of the outer Victoria Pier — fender well; the office can lend a fender board. Visitor trots take fore-and-aft mooring. Do not enter the inner working harbour without permission (water is there — ask first). In easterlies over about force 3 the harbour strongly recommends an alternative port; South Pier berths are exposed when the wind is east.

Fuel & Facilities

No fuel for leisure visitors. Shower and toilet — key from the Harbour Office. Bring vessel waste to the office; no sewage pump-out — use holding tanks until clear of the harbour. Chandlery / boatbuilder on East Wharf.

Tides

Use the free official tide tables linked below — this guide does not copy tide heights.

Cruise On

Where the water leads next

Falmouth

Carrick Roads’ Atlantic gateway harbour — Falmouth Haven visitors’ marina and green/yellow swinging moorings under the town, with commercial docks still very much in the mix.

Fowey

A deep Cornish river harbour between Fowey and Polruan — blue visitor moorings on the east side, Harbour Patrol on Channel 12, and a fuel pontoon that works all tides.
