Apartment towers, restaurants and port infrastructure frame the basin. It is emphatically urban, with the movement of Southampton Water always part of the wider picture.

Treat Southampton Water as a commercial approach from the outset. Monitor the required channels, follow current VTS and port directions, keep clear of large vessels and call Ocean Village on VHF Channel 80 for the berth.

The published 326 berths include capacity for vessels up to 80 metres, which sets Ocean Village apart. Large-vessel capability does not remove the need to confirm berth, services and manoeuvring arrangements in advance.

Fuel is available elsewhere at Hythe or Port Hamble rather than being claimed here. Confirm all other services directly, especially where a larger vessel has non-standard requirements.

Lifting and storage can be arranged at other MDL boatyards. Select the site by vessel dimensions and job scope rather than assuming the nearest yard is suitable.

Few Solent marinas provide a more immediate transition to restaurants, entertainment and city life. That convenience brings noise and movement, particularly during events.

City breaks, larger vessels and crews who want an active waterfront outside the companionway.

A quiet rural night or a skipper uncomfortable with commercial-port procedures.

Southamptons maritime identity is commercial, migratory and ocean-facing. Ocean Village occupies a leisure basin within that much larger working story.

The River Hamble, Hythe and the central Solent are natural next legs, while the city itself can justify a longer stay.
