About the club

Hayling Island Sailing Club was formed in the autumn of 1921 by seven sailors. A new clubhouse was built from 2001, and HRH The Princess Royal opened the lottery-funded building on 14 March 2003. The club celebrated its centenary throughout 2021. In his centenary message, Commodore Andy Partington said the club had grown to more than 3,500 members, with more than 150 boats at its regattas.

Sailing

HISC calls itself a family club. It is one of only four RYA Coastal Centres of Excellence. It runs supported dinghy classes, a club racing calendar and open events. There are also wingfoiling, windsurfing and SUP events, and cruiser sailing that does not need experience. Thursday Club is a volunteer-led youth sailing club for ages 8 to 18. Members who use a sailboard at the club must register it.

Training

The club runs RYA and its own adult and youth courses, from toddlers upwards. These include powerboat courses for driving club RIBs, one-to-one lessons, instructor courses, and race management and first aid courses.

Moorings and boat park

HISC has tidal and deepwater moorings, with a waiting list. Members with active class boats get priority for boat park spaces.
