Situated on the stunning shores of Sandy Point at the entrance to Chichester Harbour, Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC) stands as one of the UK’s premier dinghy and multihull sailing clubs. Founded in 1921 and moved to its purpose-built clubhouse in 2003, HISC is renowned for world-class facilities, consistently excellent racing conditions, and an active, family-friendly membership.

The club’s location provides easy access to both the sheltered waters of Chichester Harbour and the open sea beyond, making it a favourite for sailors of all skill levels. With strong tidal streams and reliable sea breezes, it’s an ideal training ground for both beginners and seasoned racers. HISC regularly hosts national and international events, including championship regattas for classes such as the RS, ILCA (Laser), and International Moth.

HISC’s modern clubhouse is a standout feature, offering a panoramic restaurant and bar, conference rooms, a fitness centre, and even overnight accommodation for members and event visitors. The design maximises its waterfront position, with uninterrupted views across the harbour and the Solent beyond. On the water side, the club has an expansive dinghy park, ample slipways for launching, and two large floating pontoons. There’s also a drying area and crane access for keelboats and support boats.

Training and youth development are at the heart of the club’s ethos. HISC is an RYA-recognised training centre, offering courses for juniors, adults, and instructors. The club has a particularly strong cadet programme and a history of producing Olympic and international sailors.

Social life is lively, with regular events ranging from regatta dinners and live music to relaxed beach BBQs. For many, HISC strikes the perfect balance: elite-level racing and coaching combined with a welcoming, inclusive community vibe.
