Elevating Sailing Communities: Sunsail's Funding the Future Initiative
Entering its third year, Sunsail’s Funding the Future Initiative consistently focuses on bolstering grassroots sailing clubs. The aim is not merely about donation but ensuring a strategic and planned development of the community. Evidently, this programme plants seeds of growth in the sailing world. Its previous beneficiaries include the West Lancashire Yacht Club and the Otley Sailing Club, with clubs such as Rudyard, Wilsonian, and Henley also reaping the benefits.
This initiative can bring meaningful change to sailing communities as it targets varied aspects – from upgrading boats to launch fresh programmes, boosting junior facilities, and supporting those unsung heroes – the volunteers keeping these clubs shipshape.
Applicants need to outline their existing activities and focus on how this fund could enhance participation and accessibility. The selection process goes through the scrutiny of an esteemed panel of judges, including Mark Jardine, Managing Editor of YachtsandYachting.com and Sail-World.com.
The wind of change, powered by Sunsail, is expected to blow strong at the award announcement, set for the Southampton International Boat Show 2026. The deadline is 22 May 2026, signalling that it’s more than high time for sailing clubs to wave the flag of creativity and vision for the future of sailing.
