Marina Ibiza Champions Marine Restoration with The Posidonia Meadow Project - A Pioneering Initiative Invigorating the Med's Biodiversity

Marina Ibiza is making waves with its pioneering initiative, the Marina Ibiza Posidonia Meadow project. In collaboration with the Vellmarí Foundation, the project aims to regenerate the degraded seabed of Talamanca Bay. An initial plantation of 1,500 Posidonia oceanica plants marks the commencement of this ambitious marine restoration effort. At the heart of this project is an invitation to Marina Ibiza’s clients, visitors, and the local community to adopt their own Posidonia plant and contribute to the expansion of the meadow.

Marina Ibiza’s commitment to restoring this ecosystem extends beyond the initial planting phase. With community involvement in mind, the adoption of the Posidonia plant will contribute to growing the meadow, thereby building resilience across the bay. This approach positions the Marina Ibiza Posidonia Meadow project as a shared endeavour between the marina, its clients, visitors, and the wider community.

The Posidonia Meadow project forms part of a wider conservation effort across the Mediterranean, where approximately 34% of Posidonia meadows have declined in recent decades. Initiatives like Marina Ibiza’s are crucial in turning the tide, fundamentally contributing to global marine protection.

Amplifying the project’s viability, Marina Ibiza has joined forces with the Vellmarí Association led by marine biologist Manu San Félix, renowned for his authority in marine conservation in Ibiza. San Félix’s expertise in Posidonia planting and monitoring will further fortify the operational effectiveness of this project.
