About the club
Warsash Sailing Club was formally created at a meeting on 21 April 1957, after local sailors kept having their boats on the mud moved by fishermen using the Lobster Ponds. Sir Adrian Chamier was its first Commodore, and the first subscription was 10 shillings. On 2 March 1960 a small syndicate of members bought the freehold of the Lobster Ponds, which were filled in between 1961 and 1964.
Two clubhouses
Lobster Quay, the original site at the mouth of the Hamble, was rebuilt in 2005 with changing rooms, showers and a training room, and has an all-tide pontoon for launching. Shore House, formerly the Royal Thames Yacht Club's base, was bought in 1980 and extended in 1994 and 2024. It has a main hall, two bars, a restaurant and a balcony overlooking the river.
Sailing
The club is member-run with around 1,500 members, and is an RYA Training Centre and an RYA British Youth Sailing recognised club. It runs youth training from age 6, a spring series and championship from March to April, and Thursday evening pursuit racing from May to July. There are also monthly cruiser rallies, and two club launches serve the river moorings.
Visiting yachts
The Shore House jetty can take up to three visiting yachts, of up to 12.2 m and 12 tonnes, rafted up to three abreast. Overnight stays for boats of 10–12.2 m cost £35. Contact the Club Administrator first (Mon–Fri 9am–2:30pm) or the Duty Exec on 01489 290016. Space from Thursday to Sunday in summer is limited.
How to join
Full, joint and family membership need a proposer and seconder from different households who know you. If you do not know any members, ask about a temporary membership period.
