About the club

Itchenor Sailing Club was formed in 1927 by six founders, including the first Commodore, the former naval surgeon B.S. Mends. In 1928, 68 Founder Members each paid a 10/6 entrance fee. In 1931 the club bought Mrs Wake's cottage for £1,625 as its base, and the Haines family, who laid the Itchenor Reach moorings, have looked after them ever since.

Sailing

The club is in Chichester Harbour, a protected landscape, and you can sail from it at any state of the tide. Racing runs from March to October. At weekends it races keelboats (Swallow, Sunbeam and X-One Design) and dinghies (International 14, RS200, International 420, Topper, Feva and Mirror). There is a cruiser programme with rallies and offshore cruises. The club's '2000 project' lets non-owners sail club dinghies.

Facilities

There are three slipways and a floating jetty with access at all states of tide, plus staging for dinghies and tenders. Ashore there is a bar and buttery.

Visitors

Visitors can use the facilities for up to seven days; sign the Visitors' Book on the bar. UK-based sailors should belong to an RYA-recognised club. You can come alongside the hammerhead jetty for up to two hours, but not overnight. For visitor buoys and overnight berths, contact Chichester Harbour Conservancy.

How to join

Members range from 8 to 80+, and you do not need to own a boat. Fill in an application form, then have an informal chat with a Flag Officer.
