Setting & Character
Lake Yard is in Hamworthy on the north-west side of Poole Harbour. The operator describes the marina as deep water with 24-hour access and no tidal restrictions, and says it is particularly well suited to motorboats.
Arrival by Sea
The operator directs arriving craft to pick up the Wareham Channel after the Poole Ferry Terminal. Lake Yard lies near channel marks WH3 and WH4, between Moriconium Quay and the Marines facility. All visitors are required to call ahead.
Berthing Experience
The marina has 44 pontoon finger berths, mostly annual, plus a large guest berth and occasional short-term pontoon spaces. Swinging moorings are available outside the marina.
Facilities
Fresh water, shore power, changing rooms, showers, toilets, secure CCTV, boat hoisting and boatyard services are listed. The site also has a waterfront bar and restaurant.
Ashore
Lake Yards club and restaurant give the marina a self-contained social side. Local pubs, cafs and provisions are within walking distance, while Poole Quay is farther east.
Best For
Motorboats and crews wanting a smaller marina with 24-hour access, boatyard support and a quieter Hamworthy setting.
Less Suitable For
Visitors expecting a large commercial marina or immediate town-centre access.
Nearby Cruising
The Wareham Channel opens west toward the upper harbour and River Frome, while Brownsea Island and the harbour entrance lie back to the east.
Skipper's Notes
Call ahead before arrival. The official contact page gives VHF Channel 37 at weekends alongside the Bosuns mobile number; weekday visitors are directed to Boat Yard Reception.
Information checked against official sources
Access, VHF, visitor berthing, facilities and contact details were checked against Lake Yards current official website.

Hazards and cautions
Stay within the marked Wareham Channel and current PHC guidance.

Channel 37 is published specifically for weekend Bosun contact; it is not described as a continuous harbour traffic service.
Old Sea Dogs View
Lake Yard feels more like a harbour institution than a generic marina. The combination of small dock, moorings, boatyard and club suits crews who value practical support and a bit of character over polished scale.
Warnings
Use the latest Poole Harbour Commissioners Harbour Guide, Local Notices to Mariners, shipping movements, tide information and marina instructions before arrival.
