The Thrill and Tactics on the Second Day of the 2026 ILCA 6 Masters World Championships at Athens

Published: 02 Jun 2026
The winds were in favour on the second day of the 2026 ILCA 6 Masters World Championships in Athens, enabling the fleet to complete another two exciting races.

As the sun rose over Athens on the second day of the exciting 2026 ILCA 6 Masters World Championship, anticipations were high amongst participants. The sailors had to navigate through the Greek waters in a southerly breeze of 6-8 knots for the first race. Later in the day, the wind increased to 11-13 knots, providing a more demanding test for the competitors. With the sea conditions moderate and a reliable breeze, this guaranteed a day of exciting racing.

Current leader Jon Emmett expressed his enthusiasm for the day’s races stating, “In these conditions, very few sailors have a boat speed advantage which keeps the racing super tight”. Anna Agrafioti, competing on home waters, shared her thoughts on returning to the ILCA class. She said, “I feel thrilled that I am back in the ILCA class, participating in my home waters in such a well-organized Masters World Championship”.

Consistency emerged as a key factor through the four races so far. The competition is set to heat up as the sailors continue their quest for world championship honours in Athens. Organised by the Nautical Club of Kalamaki and the ILCA Class Association, the event promises more thrills as it resumes tomorrow with two more scheduled races.
