The Ocean Race Atlantic, scheduled this September, promises to spotlight the prowess of the IMOCA fleet, featuring an equal number of male and female sailors.

This September, the Ocean Race Atlantic is gearing up to showcase the might of the IMOCA fleet, in what is being touted as an intense transatlantic showdown. The inaugural event promises to bring together offshore sailing’s finest, making their way from New York to Lorient, battling the waves and winds in a testament to seafaring agility and prowess

What sets this race apart is its gender-balanced crew format. Each crew, consisting of four members and one onboard reporter, will have equal representation of men and women, emphasizing the sporting world’s gradual shift towards more gender inclusivity.

“It’s a completely mixed crew race… which is really positive and I’m glad to be able to take part,” says Justine Mettraux, a member of Germany’s Team Malizia. The addition of more female sailors into the mix is a growing trend in recent editions of The Ocean Race.

Another significant aspect of the Race is its focus on sustainability and inclusion. Teams will contribute to ocean science and data collection. Similarly, the Ocean Live Park at Lorient will feature activities aimed at promoting youth participation and ocean literacy, demonstrating the power of diversity and opportunity.

“I’m very excited and happy to be competing in The Ocean Race Atlantic this summer. It’s a format I love, as a way to really increase the opportunities for female sailors in our sport,” shares Francesca Clapcich, a Team Francesca Clapcich skipper.
