38.4 Metre Feadship Yacht Calypso Set to Rekindle Majesty on Sea Following In-depth Refit
The 38.4-metre classic Feadship motor yacht Calypso, a symbol of elegance and sophistication, is once again ready to bask under the blazing sun and indulge leisure-seekers who are passionate about the serene infinity of open water. Fresh from a twelve-month, multi-million-dollar refit, the yacht is now up for sale, once again promising to make waves with her charm and class.
The yacht was constructed in aluminium and steel back in 1978 by Feadship, with the iconic De Voogt Naval Architects at the helm of her design. Over her impressive, almost half-century run, Calypso has undergone numerous refurbishment periods, particularly between 2016 and 2017, each renewing its lustre and keeping the stunning vessel sailing high.
The Calypso, asking $9,995,000, was initially designed as a venue to host luxurious parties by automotive millionaire E. Clayton Gengras. From royal dignitaries to Hollywood hotshots, many have graced her decks, most notably during the era of Malcolm Forbes. The yacht, once a party paradise, was later converted into a family yacht. In the early 2000s, the vessel embarked on a new venture, teaming up with National Geographic to delve into remote corners of the world to facilitate scientific research.
The latest refurbishment effort reflects an elegant balance between maintaining the original Feadship aesthetics and integrating modern technology. The once forward main dining room now serves as a lavishly decorated master cabin, while the full-beam lower deck that used to house the master, is now a plush VIP suite. Accommodation has been revamped to comfortably house up to 11 guests. The living space is bright and airy, thanks to oversized windows, while the decoration is intentionally designed to create an idyllic space to unwind.
Calypso epitomises outdoor luxury; a new jacuzzi, complimented by sunpads, sun loungers, a barbecue and a 12-person alfresco dining table forms the expanse of her outdoor facilities. A state-of-the-art audiovisual system expands enjoyment capacity of the vessel, ensuring guests can relish entertainment across interior and exterior spaces.
The refurbished vessel is equipped with a pair of Caterpillar 600hp engines and capable of cruising at 10 knots, with a top speed of 13 knots. Importantly, she is fitted with zero-speed stabilisers for safety and comfort while traversing unfettered across her impressive cruising range of 3,200 nautical miles.
