Heesen Unveils 50-Metre Superyacht, Project Sophia: Combining Luxury and Efficient Naval Architecture

In its continuous pursuit of merging elegance, performance, and impressive naval architecture, Heesen has introduced its latest creation – the 50-metre superyacht, Project Sophia. Unveiled at the company’s Oss facility in the Netherlands, Project Sophia set sail on 14 March 2026 and is currently available for purchase, with delivery anticipated for June of the same year.

As the fourth installment in Heesen’s line of 50-metre aluminium yachts, Project Sophia exudes a perfect blend of sportiness and grace. Thanks to the talented Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, the craft dons a streamlined exterior, a low-drag hull, and a reduced transom depth for improved speed, range, and manoeuvrability. With her hull efficiency boosted by 12 percent compared to previous models, Project Sophia ensures a quieter, enjoyable seafaring experience and lower fuel consumption, as pointed out by Peter van der Zanden, Heesen’s Director of Design & Development and Engineering.

Sophia’s exterior, meanwhile, offers plenty of space for relaxation with al fresco dining options on the terrace and sundeck. There’s also a lofty tender garage-cum-beach club and a shallow pool equipped with floating sun loungers for complete relaxation. The entire superstructure features a slight curve, enhancing her graceful silhouette, while the abundant seating areas maintain an airy and detailed atmosphere.

Project Sophia’s potential speed is impressive as well; powered by twin MTU 16V 4000 M65L engines, the yacht can reach a top speed of 23 knots and cover 3,100 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 11 knots. Other technical specifications include a nine-metre beam and a 2.15-metre draught. Heesen’s new launch follows in the successful footsteps of her sister yachts, ALP, Aquamarine, and Book Ends, accentuating the yard’s commitment to combining luxury and performance in their awe-inspiring creations.
