The sudden shift in weather was a treat for our sailing-fanatic couple, Luke and Sara Griffith, who couldn’t help but seize the opportunity to explore the awe-inspiring terrains of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. Initially, plans had to be altered as rough end of season weather pushed them to moor their Duchy 35 Laila in Falmouth’s marina rather than sally forth to their home port of Noss on Dart. But fortune smiled upon their return in mid-July, with a settled weather window beckoning them to an adventure.
Imagine the exhilaration: four competitors brimming with anticipation, gathered at the Rutland Sailing Club on a sunny April day. There on 25th April 2026, they were all poised to compete in the yearly RS Sprints, a key event of the Rooster National Tour embellished with sponsorship courtesy of Harken. But Mother Nature had other plans. She unveiled a particular riddle - an undeniably sunny but teeteringly still day. The wind was nowhere in sight.
