An Unexpected Weather Window Opens up Delights of Scilly Isles and Cornwall
The sudden shift in weather was a treat for our sailing-fanatic couple, Luke and Sara Griffith, who couldn’t help but seize the opportunity to explore the awe-inspiring terrains of Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. Initially, plans had to be altered as rough end of season weather pushed them to moor their Duchy 35 Laila in Falmouth’s marina rather than sally forth to their home port of Noss on Dart. But fortune smiled upon their return in mid-July, with a settled weather window beckoning them to an adventure.
As the days rolled on, the couple relished not just in sea, but on the land too. Staying ashore, they enjoyed tranquil walks along the Tresillian estuary, the historic charm of St. Clement, and an authentic Cornish market day experience in Truro. A memorable detour was their visit to the locally renowned Mary’s Pasty Shop, where they enjoyed reputedly the best pasties in town, an indulgence that led them to skip the return walk and opt for a bus ride back.
A Minnesota onboard the Fal led to a pleasant day exploring National Trust’s pride, the Trelissick House. Wandering through the sun-kissed forest and the stunning house and gardens, the Griffiths’ journey was bestowed with a unique blend of seafaring thrills and enchanting onshore experiences, creating a truly unforgettable voyage.
