It was a weekend like no other at the 2026 ILCA UK Ovington Boats National Open. Spirits were high as 71 competent ILCA 4 sailors took to the water at WPNSA amidst particularly daunting weather conditions on 28-29 March. The relentless winds and dipping temperatures did little to dampen the zeal of these sailing enthusiasts.
The first day of the racing event witnessed early morning gusts of up to 40 knots and intermittent heavy rain that set the mood for what was to be an exciting day filled with adrenaline-pumping action. However, within a few minutes into the launch sequence, the ever-strengthening winds drove the race committee to call the sailors back from the course area. The decision marked the end of Saturday’s racing for the ILCA 4 fleet due to the insurmountable wind conditions.
As the 2026 St Barths Bucket approaches, a thrilling display of sail competition is dominating the chatter of the sailing community. The competition, slated to occur from the 12th-15th March, confirms a line-up of competing yachts, all vying for the highly coveted regatta title.
An interesting trend notices a growing presence of larger yachts taking up the challenge. A medley of sailing giants, each impressive in their own right, is set to grace the grand stage. The year’s regatta celebrates 31 years of sailing tradition, attracting the presence of social non-racing entries as well.
Key among these entries is Burger Boat’s 46.7-meter Ingot and 46-meter Nadan, bringing the rich pedigree of their makers to the front; along with Royal Huisman’s 42.1-meter Hanuman, Palmer Johnson’s 37.4-meter Temptation and Baltic Yacht’s 34.1-meter Liara among others, shaping up a varied and quality fleet.
