A High-Seas Adventure: Thrilling Kick-Off for National 12 and Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series

Published: 12 Apr 2026
An adventurous day unfolded as the National 12 and Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series commenced, displaying the unpredictable essence of sailing.

There is something intrinsically exhilarating about stepping onto a sailing boat, knowing that the calm waters can transform into turbulent waves at any moment. This vibrancy was magnified during the National 12 Sprint Series at the Burghfield Sailing Club and the Border Counties Midweek Sailing Series at the Nantwich & Border Counties Sailing Club, which tested seasoned and novice sailors alike in a thrilling, unpredictable adventure on the seas.

Simultaneously, at the Nantwich & Border Counties Sailing Club, 23 boats and 28 tough sailors embarked on their first event of 2026. The weather favored the brave, delivering a steady wind and a fleeting chance of rain, while 28 sailors displayed grit and resilience, refusing to back down. The day was as much about understanding the conditions as it was about sailing; with the course including two long beats and quick reaches back downwind, it demanded an insightful interpretation of the environment.

Both these events set the tone for an incredible season of sailing, which promises more races, more unpredictable seas, and more thrilling tales from seasoned and adrenaline-junkie sailors alike. It’s a display of true sportsmanship and resilience, as keen competitors face off against not just each other but, more importantly, against the unpredictable yet beautiful nature of sailing.
