2025 Queensland Yachting Survey Reveals Key Trends and Challenges Impacting the Sport's Future
Fresh off the excitement of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, a convergence of knowledgeable individuals from the nautical industry convened to discuss the present status of their beloved pastime – yachting in Queensland. Notably, an unsettling trend was identified: a drastic decrease in the sport’s active participants. Obliged to broaden their perspective, the assembly, an eclectic mix of avid racers, sailing enthusiasts, and esteemed club members, concurred on the necessity for an independent survey. Their aim? To cast a wide net, thereby capturing the thoughts and opinions of sailors spread across Queensland and gain a clearer understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead for yachting. This decision birthed the Queensland Yachting Survey. Determined to gather precious insights directly from the beating heart of the yachting community, this initiative was designed to inform future strategies to rejuvenate participation levels and ensure the sport’s ongoing growth and enjoyment throughout the state. An impressive 107 responses were recorded. These results were then graphed; however, it’s important to note that the percentages only reflect each respondent’s selection over other selections, not the number of total submissions. A statistical anomaly it may be, but the raw data remains untouched, and the unbiased campaign continues to be spearheaded by Ocean Crusaders, an independent party with no vested financial interests. Growing concern over reduced participation in yachting events necessitates a response - less regulation, lower costs, and an increase in ‘mum and dad’ involvement may spur renewed interest and help maintain the vibrancy of yachting in Queensland. With the insights garnered from this survey, it’s clear that the industry needs to reassess its strategy to ensure the future of Queensland’s yachting scene remains buoyant.
