Damen Yachting launches its third Amels 80 series superyacht, Project Zurich

Dutch shipyard Damen Yachting is celebrating the successful launch of its third superyacht in the Amels 80 series, referred to as Project Zurich. The 80-metre new build made its debut in Vlissingen-East, one of Damen Yachting’s construction facilities, before being transported to their main headquarters in Vlissingen City for final outfitting. There’s already much excitement about its scheduled delivery later this year.

Once mere blueprints, Project Zurich is now a reality after only a few months since it was first announced in March 2022. It boasts unique features that distinguish it from its sisterships, setting a new standard in yacht design and luxury.

Project Zurich follows closely on the heels of the second unit, the exquisite ‘dolphin blue’ Netto II, which made its first splash just a fortnight ago. The premier unit of the series, Pangea, was delivered in October last year.

Project Zurich also introduces a new direction in interior design, departing from the Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design interiors of the first two hulls. An award-winning design team has crafted unique, custom interiors, though their identity remains confidential. They’ve planned spacious accommodation for 14 guests in seven cabins and 21 crew, and lots of storage for toys and tenders.

Sander Peeters, project manager at Damen Yachting, acknowledged the skills and the meticulous planning that goes into managing a project of this magnitude: ‘Launching our third Amels 80 marks an important milestone for everyone involved alike,’ he said. ‘Yachts of this scale require meticulous planning, craftsmanship and close coordination across our teams, together with the owner’s representative.’ He emphasized the importance of precision and focus in managing multiple projects of this size.

Damen Yachting has eight yachts on order or actively under construction, with five from the Amels 80 builds. The launch of Project Zurich marks another impressive achievement for Damen Yachting and an exciting addition to the luxury yachting scene.
