Cowes Week began under a light north‑westerly breeze

Day 1 – Saturday, 2 August 2025 At about 13:00, conditions began to improve, and by 13:24, the AP signal was dropped to launch racing J/70 Class The 36‑boat J/70 fleet kicked off the action with a general recall, followed by individual recalls that left six boats OCS. Once away around 13:40, they raced a coastal course—Gurnard → Contessa 32 → Jane → Hill‑Head → East Knoll. Bruce Huber’s Endeavour led early, while Sardonyx ran aground.

Will’s story doesn’t begin with podiums or plaques. It starts where many good sea stories do — with family and an old boat. His grandfather, Harry “Pa” Farnell, first caught the sailing bug in Bendigo. After moving to Geelong, Pa joined the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and passed the obsession down the line. First to Will’s dad, Jason. Then to Will and his sister. “My first memory of sailing is Wednesday nights on Pa’s Van de Stadt 23,” Will says.

Transpac 2025 - Full Moon and Full Throttle

With just under a week left to run, the 2025 Transpac fleet is officially past halfway, surfing westward across the Pacific towards Honolulu’s Diamond Head.
