It was a weekend like no other at the 2026 ILCA UK Ovington Boats National Open. Spirits were high as 71 competent ILCA 4 sailors took to the water at WPNSA amidst particularly daunting weather conditions on 28-29 March. The relentless winds and dipping temperatures did little to dampen the zeal of these sailing enthusiasts.
The first day of the racing event witnessed early morning gusts of up to 40 knots and intermittent heavy rain that set the mood for what was to be an exciting day filled with adrenaline-pumping action. However, within a few minutes into the launch sequence, the ever-strengthening winds drove the race committee to call the sailors back from the course area. The decision marked the end of Saturday’s racing for the ILCA 4 fleet due to the insurmountable wind conditions.
