Thrilling Competitions Light Up 2026 Sailing Scene: Inside the Jack Turner Trophy and Henri-Lloyd Warsash Spring Championship

The 2026 sailing season roars to life with the thrilling Jack Turner Trophy IOM Open at Birkenhead Radio Sailing & Power Club and the Henri-Lloyd Warsash Spring Championship. Seventeen sailors turned out for the second annual Jack Turner Trophy, greeted by a westerly breeze and intermittent sunshine. The early successes saw Robbie Mac, Paul Plested, and Graham Elliott leading the pack, while later victories belonged to Brad Gibson and Roger Crates.

A diverse event, the Jack Turner Trophy was not only about the racing. Sailors, spectators, and organizers alike enjoyed a variety of cakes and biscuits — mostly homemade — with complimentary tea and coffee in between the sprints. Thus, the event blended the competitive spirit of sailors with the cordiality of a community brought together by their shared love for the sea.

Week 2 of the DF95 Spring Series at East Kent Radio Sailing Club offered up a thrilling spectacle of sailing skill and competitive spirit. The event was marked by fierce winds and stormy weather, adding to the challenge faced by the participating sailors. But even as storms lashed towards South East Kent for the second Spring series event, enthusiasm remained undeterred with 12 competitors entering the fray and 13 races run in conditions that varied from a shifty 5 knots beginning, building up to a hefty 15 knots by 1 pm.
