The exciting Yachting World Dayboat Open unfolded at Poole Yacht club generating high octane action over two days.

The revered Poole Yacht Club was abuzz with excitement as it played host to the Yachting World Dayboat Open. Despite the imminent Dayboat championships in Falmouth and the forecast of stormy weather, the event saw 12 boats vying for victory, attesting to the steely resilience of the participants. Balancing meticulous strategy and skilful sailing, the open unfolded over two captivating days, putting the participants and their yachts to the ultimate test.

Day one saw two action-packed long-distance races around the picturesque harbour islands. Only six boats braved the erratic conditions during the morning session. A race littered with giant shifts and areas devoid of breeze transformed the route to Green Island into a high-stakes gamble. However, Sue and Howard Clayton emerged victorious, overcoming challenges, keeping to the marked channels and capitalising on the rising tide at the harbour entrance.

The final day of the tournament brought fierce winds, shrinking the turnout to six steadfast boats. As the yachts cleaved through break-neck winds of up to 28 knots, a thrilling spectacle unfolded on triangle/sausage courses. Despite an unfortunate rudder breakage, the sailors exhibited nothing less than masterful prowess as they tamed the tempestuous weather.

The Yachting World Dayboat Open serves to highlight the enduring strength and tenacity of these talented sailors. Weathering storms both literal and metaphorical, they continue to inspire, delivering a spectacle that draws the attention of the world.
