Published: 14 May 2026
The Flying 15 fleet descended upon the waters of Mallorca for the Palma Vela 2026, stirring up a wave of exhilarating competition and cementing a stunning legacy for sailing.

The adrenaline-fueled spectacle of the Palma Vela 2026 was enriched by the exciting participation of the Flying 15 fleet. For the first time in years, this dynamic class graced the regatta, hosted by the Real Club Náutico Palma, earning it the reputation as one of the premier high seas events of the season. The participating teams, travelling down from Pollença, were united by their passion for sailing, excitedly welcoming the chance to compete and gain crucial experience before the upcoming European championships.

The unpredictable weather over the event’s three days added an extra layer of excitement. Participants navigated shifting winds and unpredictable sea breezes, showcasing their adaptability at sea. Unfortunately, day three was cut short due to stormy conditions, but not before participants had aired their considerable tactical skills in the face of light winds and challenging waves.

A round of applause goes to the two women’s teams who participated, setting a remarkable example of inclusivity at sea. Gratitude must also be extended towards both the fleet captain, Rafa, who managed logistics, and RCNP for hosting a truly remarkable event. With the Flying 15 class back in the Palma Vela, the regatta’s future looks brighter than ever. They say, ‘After the storm comes the calm.’ At this regatta, they’ll be saying, ‘After the storm comes the exhilaration’.

Undeterred by the changing sea conditions, sailors gave their best performance at every race, delivering a series that delighted the spectators and participants alike. The competition proved that sailing isn’t just about battling the ocean; it’s also about harnessing its unpredictable nature, clinging to its waves, riding its winds and, in doing so, learning something profound about oneself. With an eye toward the future, the Flying 15 fleet plans to return next year in even greater numbers, ready for the challenges and excitement that the Palma Vela will undoubtedly provide.
