Glistening waves off the Stanley Main Beach in Hong Kong bore witness to a remarkable beginning of the 2026 WingFoil Racing World Cup. The world’s leading 53 athletes, men and women alike, redefined serenity as their boards skimmed through the waters, drawing new boundaries in this exhilarating event. As Hong Kong took on the role of host for the first time, the air buzzed with suspense and anticipation.

Men, from varied backgrounds, brought the might of ten nations to the waters, while 13 exceptional women bore the flag of seven. The presence of East Asian athletes was notably significant, with representatives from Singapore, Japan, and Chinese Taipei further enhancing the event’s global vision. Not to forget, the roaring crowd in support of the 21 local champions from Hong Kong.

Keeping everyone on the edge was four-time World Cup Champion Mathis Ghio of France. Ghio, a beacon of expertise and grace, had all eyes on him and did not disappoint, even though he did not reign supreme on day one.

The first day also marked a memorable 24th birthday for Poland’s Kamil Manowiecki, who bagged three podium finishes, including a victory in Race 2. Combining his early arrival in Hong Kong for gear testing with his commendable previous year’s performance, Manowiecki is emerging as a serious contender for the championship title.

As the day drew close, the triumph of Italy’s Alessandro Tomasi in Race 3 and Francesco Cappuzzo in the fourth, and and the consequent celebration, demonstrated the strength and versatility of the competing fleet. With four distinct winners on the opening day, the 2026 WingFoil Racing World Cup promises yet another thrilling season of skills, speed, and strategy.
