Exceptional Sailing Performance and Thrilling Race at the 7th South West Travellers at Dittisham Sailing Club
Sunshine graced the marine canvas of Dittisham Sailing Club for the 7th South West Traveller of the year. Belying its outward serenity, gusty conditions and a restless tide added a thrilling unpredictability to the race which began with an extended beat, testing the mettle of all competitors.
In the closely fought competition, ten 5.3 rigs and two 4.2 rigs vied for dominance. In race 1, Harry MacLeod steered his way to victory, with Charlie Mackenzie and Edith Philips hot on his tail. The second race saw a fiercely competitive battle, returning the sailors to the harbour with the top three performers levelled on points. Edith edged out the competition for first place, with Charlie settling for second and Harry third.
In the third bout, Charlie Mackenzie claimed glory, trailed by Dittisham’s Leo Kaneko. The final race was a triumphant one for Edith Philips, who navigated to her first traveller win, with Charlie a close runner-up.
Underpinning the intense competition was the immense appreciation for the volunteers and helpers, whose tireless efforts ensured a successful event. Over the weekend, Dittisham Sailing Club was home to a substantially competitive and excitingly strong racing fleet, yielding an impressive set of results.
Philips topped the leaderboard, followed closely by Mackenzie, with the top five rounded out by Harry MacLeod, Leo Kaneko, and Brooke Browning. All eyes now rest on the SW sailors as they prepare to battle the waves at the Worlds and Nationals.
