Day 2 of the Musto Lark National Championship 2025 proved a thrilling day of sailing at the South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club. With three races successfully completed, there were sharp strategies employed and impressive manoeuvres displayed along the course. Ed Bradburn and Holly Evans distinguished themselves in the first race, decisively holding their nerve amid a strong challenge from Tom Gillard and Rachael Gray, and capitalising on speed rather than distance to clinch their first win. Meanwhile, Gillard and Rachael Gray put a commendable effort trailing behind, securing the second position with Stuart and Nick Hydon taking up the third spot. The second race started in livelier breeze conditions, causing a scramble among the participants at the pin end due to tide fluctuations. It was racers Bradburn/Evans who took advantage and claimed the lead, displaying the skill and determination that sailing fans have come to have admire, and successfully led around the first marker. Gillard/Gray performed admirably yet again, battling through the fleet to finish second. Race 3 saw a repeat of Race 2 with many contenders struggling to overcome the tide and cross the line. Despite an initially promising lead by Fells/Allen, they ultimately lost out due to being Over Course Side (OCS). This allowed Gillard/Gray to resolutely sail through and snatch up their very first win of the championship. On the last day, spectators saw plenty of place changing before Jon and Vicky Brickwood pulled ahead, their triumph a testament to the power of holding the right corner. Day 2 of the Championship truly underlined the thrill and unpredictability of sailing, a sport where the combination of peak physical and mental abilities, as well as respect for the caprices of nature, can determine the winners and the also-rans.
