As the NSW 12ft skiff fleet masters their watercraft for the impending State Championships, excitement rides the waves across Sydney Harbour.

Bound by the spirit of competition and waterborne camaraderie, a fleet of 12ft skiffs has set Sydney Harbour abuzz. These agile crafts and their industrious teams are gearing up for the highly anticipated NSW Championship. The thrilling event unfolds over two weekends, the adrenaline pumping from Sydney Flying Squadron to Lane Cove’s 12ft Sailing Skiff Club (LCSSC). With earlier Upper Harbour and Paramatta River Championships under their belts, the skiff teams now tune up for the grand NSW Championship.

Adrenaline runs high in these races, as Saul exclaims, ‘It’s good to be scared again.’ With a twinkle in his eye that mirrors the sun’s glitter on the waves, Saul admits, ‘I feel like a little kid starting out sailing again.’ The thrill of mortal danger doesn’t deter these young seafarers. On the contrary, they find it adds depth to their experience. ‘It’s addictive. I’m more than happy to die sailing these boats,’ says Saul emphatically.
