Thrilling Weekend Regattas at Staunton Harold and Draycote Water Sailing Clubs
The weekend was a slice of sailor’s paradise at the Midlands where Staunton Harold and Draycote Water Sailing Clubs hosted their thrilling regattas.
Staunton Harold Sailing Club proudly kicked off the first Miracle class event of the year over the bank holiday weekend in late May, overcoming a challenging forecast. Despite the gusty winds, five determined boats, including one home team and four visiting teams, took to the water. The exciting races unfurled dynamically, with Miracle sailors setting sail after the Graduate Nationals’ flotilla. Dave Turtle and Zara Frankton made their presence felt immediately with their superior downwind sailing skills, seizing the lead and securing a critical victory.
Both events encapsulated the heart and spirit of sailing - the tension of the starting line, the exhilaration of the race, and the satisfaction of crossing the finish line. These regattas serve as a reminder of why sailors brave the waves - for the camaraderie, the challenge, and, above all, the unrivalled thrill of racing on the open water.
