The revamped Wild Thing 100, under the direction of Grant Wharington, is primed for a record-breaking attempt in the Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race.

Grant Wharington has revved up his vessel, Wild Thing 100, ready to challenge the best in the highly anticipated Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race. Keenly sponsoring the race on the 1250 nautical mile stretch globally recognised as a ’tough little piece of ocean’, Wharington and his team are primed for an intense competition.

Stay tuned as Rodney Keenan, a well-known captain and owner of Evolution Sails in Auckland, joins the racing team. The Wild Thing 100 has been prepared meticulously with a new mast suited for her size, reassuring a promising performance in the race.

Wild Thing 100’s boat manager, Patrick Lambourne, who is a strong advocate of the race and completed the inaugural S2A race on Mayfair, will also be aboard to support the challenge. While the Comanche 100 with larger gear might be the only competition in sight, Wharington explains that Wild Things possesses a little more righting moment than peers like Wild Oats and Black Jack.

As Wharington and his competent crew aim to set new benchmarks in the Sydney to Auckland Ocean Race, it means much more than just an adventure at sea. It’s an iconic event in the offshore yachting scene that carries the excitement of true offshore sailing. From the young to the experienced, this race brings together a wide spectrum of sailors from across the world who carry the love for vast blue waters.
