Adventurous UK Entrepreneur Steve Rigby Debuts 'Haze²', His Latest CDM Superyacht
A well-known figure in the world of yachting, Steve Rigby’s passion for the ocean is no secret. His latest addition, Haze², is a continuation of this love affair, marking his steady transition from land to sea. Haze² is the sixth unit in the Darwin 102 series by Italian yard Cantiere delle Marche (CDM), who Rigby has developed a strong relationship with. This led to the birth of his latest dream vessel, a successor of the much-lauded Extra Yachts’ 26.2-metre Haze. Sporting a sharp metallic grey hull and bold blue superstructure, the yacht was launched after teasing eyes at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival. The construction of Haze² began that same year. A seasoned sailor with a history of both sailing and motor yachts, Rigby funnelled his clear vision of what he wanted his next yacht to be into the creation of Haze². The UK-based studio Lawson Robb is the brain behind Haze²’s riveting interiors. Known for their artistic discretion, they have also worked on its predecessor. George Wolstenholme, Lawson Robb’s director and creative lead, noted that Rigby’s vision had evolved from a ‘fairweather craft’ towards a design that could take him to more remote locations, aligning with his adventurous spirit. The enhanced features on Haze² reflect this evolution, including developed window systems for a wraparound glass feel, and a concealed tender crane in the yard’s RJ line style. Hydro Tec is the talent behind the exterior design and naval architecture. Catering to Rigby’s lifestyle needs, the yacht comprises intimate areas tailored for entertaining and remote work. A soft, muted palette with sporadic bursts of vibrant colours, particularly reds and oranges, embellish the interiors. A sun deck Jacuzzi nestled between sun pads, along with an aft deck tender storage, are a few of its remarkable features. A private and charter yacht in essence, Haze² will be classed accordingly. As of now, CDM has eight yachts currently under construction according to BOATPro. Continuing to wow the marine world, the company launched its 46.9-metre flagship, the RJ. For the audacious traveller or the ardent sailor, Rigby’s dynamic adventure with seafaring and yachts like Haze² drives home the joy and thrill of being one with the vast, captivating ocean.
