Carbon Emission Rating System SEA Index Gets Region-Wide Adoption for Sustainable Boating
A major stride forward has been taken in the realm of sustainable yachting. The Superyacht Eco Association’s SEA Index, an initiative by the Yacht Club de Monaco, has been integrated into the Agreements for a Sustainable Mediterranean. This environmental plan of action is led by Région Sud (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur), which underscores the commitment to environmental responsibility in the Mediterranean region.
The SEA Index presents an independent, verifiable, and effective framework for accurately measuring and reducing carbon emissions in yachts over 24 metres. The Lloyd’s Register-verified certification process is comprehensive, also addressing air and noise pollution. Moreover, it provides useful refit recommendations and access to a dynamic international network focused on sustainability.
It is an encouraging testament to the effectiveness of the SEA Index that it is now being adopted at a regional level, a leap from previous individual port adoptions. The aspiration is clear - to steer together towards a more responsible and sustainable future for yachting. The trust placed in the SEA Index is a beacon of hope that the yachting sector can sail in harmony with the preservation and conservation of our marine environment.
