Legendary Motor Yacht Rena Finds a New Owner in a Remarkable 64 Days

The embodiment of grandeur, speed, and stability, the legendary Rena motor yacht has found a new steward. Its sale, just 64 days after hitting the market, was completed by BR Marine Group. Brenda Roney, acting on behalf of the seller, with assistance from Ken Bracewell, and Rebecca Gormley, who introduced the buyer, successfully concluded the transaction. Design credits for Rena, conceived by the Australian yard NQEA in 1989, belong to extraordinary US naval architect Jack Hargrave. The creation of Rena not only served to debut a yacht ’that could do everything’ but also showcased Hargrave’s exceptional talent for designing both the interior and exterior profiles of a yacht. A previous owner saw potential to enhance the yacht in 1994, adding 4.5 metres to Rena’s length overall. Since then, the yacht has been maintained regularly, most recently receiving a new stabiliser system and Starlink connectivity. From 2023-2024, it also underwent a complete rebuild of main engines and transmission, including an electrical refit. Rena’s interior offers ample space for socialising and relaxation, with the main deck saloon featuring a U-shaped sofa and another row of couch seating. A formal dining table for 10 is situated further forward, separated by a wooden partition for clear demarcation of spaces. A nautical theme pervades the interior, marked by navy blue furnishings, embroidered with ocean insignia. The yacht boasts accommodation for 14 guests across five staterooms, which includes a full-beam (7.8 metre) master suite. The exterior spaces offer sublime panoramas from the main deck aft, bridge deck aft, and sundeck. Amenities include an outdoor gym, multiple tanning locations, and an assortment of water toys, from Yamaha WaveRunners to a catamaran landing tender. Twin 1500hp Caterpillar engines empower Rena’s impressive speeds. The yacht can reach a maximum speed of 15 knots, and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10-knot cruising speed, allowing her to tackle transatlantic passages with grace and Yacht Rena flaunts both power and beauty, offering a rare combination of versatility and luxury, a testament to Jack Hargrave’s exceptional design skill.
