Shaping the Next Generation of Sailing: Sunsail Continues to Fund Future Champions and Promotes Female Inclusion
For three consecutive years now, Sunsail has been steering grassroots sailing clubs towards success through its ‘Funding the Future’ initiative. Previous beneficiaries of this brilliant initiative include the West Lancashire Yacht Club (2024) and Otley Sailing Club (2025). In addition, clubs like Rudyard, Wilsonian, and Henley Sailing Club have reaped the rewards as runners-up. This initiative has proven to be a beacon of hope, whether it’s been about upgrading boats to spearhead new ventures, enhancing junior facilities, or supporting the hardworking volunteers whose dedication keeps these clubs afloat.
2026 promises to be another stellar year for this initiative, with clubs across the country being given another fantastic opportunity to boost their facilities and support their sailors. The stakes are set high, with a grand prize of £6,000 up for grabs for the overall winner and £2,000 each for two deserving runner-up clubs.
To be a part of this fantastic initiative, clubs are required to submit an application detailing their vision for the future of sailing, which will be reviewed by a panel of esteemed judges. Winners will be announced at the Southampton International Boat Show 2026, marking yet another year of making waves with Sunsail’s inspiring initiative.
So don’t miss the boat! Join the movement and let’s shape the future of sailing together, one club at a time.
