Sailing Takes the Lead at Scottish Sports Awards with Duo of Honours
Scotland’s sailing community reached a new pinnacle at this year’s Scottish Sports Awards. Signals of joy and waves of applause filled the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on 15th December as two distinguished personalities of sailing, Andy Brown and Ann Roy, were honoured for their contributions.
Andy Brown, Glasgow’s windsurfing ace, was crowned the Athlete of the Year. Brown established himself as a global windsurfing icon after scoring Gold at the iQFOiL World Championships in July. This significant victory catapults his reputation, prepping him for a promising LA 2028 Olympic Games campaign.
Moreover, Brown has been a beacon of support for Scottish windsurfing’s future development. As RYA Scotland’s Head iQFOiL Coach and an active member of the Scottish Fin & Foil Association, Brown nurtures emerging talent, positioning Scotland as a thriving hub for water sports.
These recognitions emphasise the vital role sailing and windsurfing have come to play in Scotland’s sporting lexicon, led by exceptional ambassadors and driven by boundless passion and the spirit of competition.
