Exciting revelation from World Sailing, one of sailing's global governing bodies: The Techno293 has been confirmed as their equipment of choice for the Summer Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026.

World Sailing, the international governing body for the sport, has warmly announced the selection of Techno293 for the Summer Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026. Scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 13, 2026, this sporting sensation will be the first opportunity of its kind for athletes on the African continent.

The Techno293 isn’t a new addition to the arena. Its abilities have been tried and tested at the Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games for the windsurfing events. Moreover, at the Buenos Aires 2018 edition, the advanced Techno 293+ board was used.

The board is loved globally for its easy control and distinctive directional stability, provided by a daggerboard. Its near 3-meter length and impressive glide in light winds make it a dream choice for youth athletes, adding an exciting edge to windsurfing events.

Jim Morris, World Sailing’s Director of Events, expressed his eagerness regarding the event as a splendid chance for young people worldwide. Particularly captivating is the opportunity to build on previous successes during the first Olympic sporting event on African soil. ‘The Techno293 is part of sailing heritage at the Youth Olympic Games, and this generation of young sailors have the opportunity to make history in Senegal.’

Athletes will be nominated by National Olympic Committees (NOCs) via a process proposed by the Member National Authorities (MNAs). All nominations are due before the deadline of July 31, 2025.

In addition to revealing the Participation Principles for Dakar 2026, World Sailing has kickstarted a new Dakar 2026 Information Hub. With this, the platform aims to become the ultimate destination for the Sailing Competition at the Youth Olympic Games.
