Luxury Yacht Chanticleer: A Drop in the Ocean at $500k Less

Published: 18 Oct 2025
A reduction of half a million dollars has been announced on the magnificent 33-metre motor yacht, the Chanticleer, one of Burger Boat's timeless classics.

The motor yacht Chanticleer, a classic piece of nautical artistry from Burger Boat, has seen a significant reduction in its asking price. It is now listed for sale at $500k less, a deal brokered by Dominic Meredith Hardy of Classic Charters. Originally christened Buckpasser, the Chanticleer was commissioned by American stockbroker, philanthropist, and court tennis champion, Ogden Phipps. Delivered in 1973, it was the largest yacht ever built by its American crafters and the first to feature a helipad in the fleet. The yacht’s design and naval architecture is a testament to the skill of Jack Hargrave.\ In 1986, the Chanticleer saw a new dawn when it was collected by the legendary singer, actress, and philanthropist, Frances Langford. A fervent yachting enthusiast, Langford modified the boat with a cockpit to cater to her love for fishing. Over the next two decades, the Chanticleer received stringent preventive maintenance and upgrades, embodying ‘unwavering attention to detail’.\ Its 2006 makeover was nothing short of spectacular, a multimillion-dollar two-year-long rebuild. The most recent owner, who procured it in 2023, carried out extensive refurbishments to ensure it stands in an ‘immaculate’ condition today.\ The Chanticleer offers an indulgent experience for eight guests in its four boarding cabins while also accommodating three additional personnel quarters. The opulent ambiance is set by white-painted woods and light-coloured furniture, contrasted with dark mahogany. Paola D. Smith designed her interiors, laced with nautical blues. Multiple lounging areas, alfresco dining space, and a formal dining area nearby highlight the Chanticleer’s desire to offer a space of relaxation while at sea. The current asking price? A mere $990,000.
