Maddalena Spanu, a talented athlete from the Young Azzurra programme, emerges victorious at the global Defi Wind event, a crowning achievement in her flourishing career.

The international watersports stage echoed with a triumphant cheer as Maddalena Spanu, a young prodigy from the Young Azzurra programme, clinched a tremendous win at the Defi Wind competition. The event, which transpired in Gruissan, France, is known as the world’s largest congregation dedicated to water sports. It drew in a mammoth gathering of over 2,000 athletes to the shimmering French coast.

Competing in the Wing class, Spanu battled it out with roughly 600 athletes from every corner of the globe. With her eyes firmly set on the prize, she surged ahead to seal the overall victory in the women’s category. Vania Picot and Enoha Laurant, her formidable competitors, trailed behind her in second and third place.

Her stellar performance, marked by two wins, a second and a third, crowned her as the queen of the Defi Wind, where she finished 50th overall in a fleet of 595 participants. This victory marked an extra-special occasion as she shared the podium with her brother, Nicolò Spanu, who claimed the top position in the men’s category. The achievement, unsurprisingly, brought forth a whirlpool of emotions for the Spanus, expressed beautifully by Maddalena at the conclusion of the prestigious event.

With the thrill of the victory still lingering in the air, the dynamic athlete prepares for her next contest—the WingFoil Racing World Cup. The leg in Urla, Turkey, is waiting for her from 19-23 May. As the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda showers their champion Spanu with congratulatory wishes, the stage is set for her next soaring achievement.
