Discover Sundance: Silent Yachts' Groundbreaking Solar-Electric Catamaran Launches in Style

Italian shipbuilding maestro, Silent Yachts, has successfully launched Sundance, the first entrant in their flagship solar-electric catamaran series, the SY80. Sundance, exquisitely designed by Marco Casali of Too Design, measures an impressive 24.4 metres and is the first 2-Deck version in the groundbreaking series. Fresh from the yard’s famed Fano facilities in Italy, Sundance is scheduled to make a debut appearance at the esteemed Cannes Yachting Festival in the upcoming September.

On the lower decks of Sundance, guests can retreat to one of four guest cabins, including a master cabin and VIP suites, ensuring comfortable accommodation for up to 12 occupants. Sundance’s upper deck, too, is generously equipped, featuring twin sunpads, and also provides a dedicated helm station for effortless steering and unobstructed 360-degree views. Ensuring the comfort aspect of the build doesn’t wane, the port-side hull houses a fully enclosed garage, clandestinely hidden behind an aft staircase, while the starboard side hull provides ample storage for water sport toys.

The signature ‘Made in Italy’ approach is eloquently exhibited throughout the flagship build, particularly with regards to her comfort and design ethos. Although yet to be unveiled, her interiors, also conceptualized by Casali, are expected to brim with natural light, thanks to the elongated glazing decorating her profile. Italian studio MICAD takes credit for the naval architecture.

Powered by her solar-powered battery, Sundance is capable of achieving top speeds of 12 knots and cruising speeds of seven to eight knots, all while offering a remarkable battery capacity between 522 kWh to 696 kWh. The vessel is the shipyard’s ‘most complex project to date’, boasting all the sustainable features found on previous yachts, but on notably larger scale. The cherry-on-top is the news that Silent Yachts has also sold two SY80 3-Deck versions.

In all, Sundance is a veritable testament to Silent Yachts’ dedication to revolutionize the world of yachting with purposeful design and fascinating green technology.
