A Vision in Blue: Damen Yachting Presents its 75.2-metre Hybrid Expedition Yacht, the First Ever to Cultivate Vegetables on Board

In the Dutch city of Vlissingen, Damen Yachting has launched its 75.2-metre hybrid expedition yacht, referred to as Custom DY 75 Hybrid.

A new player has entered the world of superyachts - and it comes with quite a splash. Damen Yachting’s Custom DY 75 Hybrid, a 75.2-metre hybrid expedition yacht, has been revealed, marking the milestone of its official launch. The project - kept remarkably private during construction - began with her keel laying in 2022, and since then, this oceanic titan has been a beacon of anticipation for maritime enthusiasts across the globe. Notably, the yacht’s design was helmed by British studio Michael Leach Design alongside Damen’s own naval architects. Together, they created an incredibly capable platform that goes beyond aesthetics. The Custom DY 75 Hybrid holds a hybrid propulsion system for zero-emission global cruising, bringing eco-consciousness into the realm of luxury. Accommodation for up to twelve guests ensures comfort is not compromised by capability. One key highlight of the Custom DY 75 Hybrid – a feature that sets it truly apart in the industry – is the incorporation of commercial-grade cultivation pods. This technology allows for the growth of tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and other vegetables on board, presenting a level of self-sufficiency not previously seen in private yachts. This yacht proves that sustainability, innovation, and luxury are not mutually exclusive but can be gracefully intertwined. This rugged, ocean-going vessel is equipped with an efficient power and propulsion configuration. In addition to two main engines, she also features PTO/PTI hybrid electrical drives that allow running at up to eight knots for a total range of 6,200 miles when cruising at 14 knots. Onboard battery power for regular use and silent nights at anchor without generator power make her perfectly equipped for long-term exploration. For those looking forward to extended zero-emission silent cruising in fragile marine ecosystems, stored power can be increased with containerised battery packs. The Custom DY 75 Hybrid is more than a superyacht. She is a statement of what the yachting industry can achieve, breaking new ground in sustainable sea travel and setting the bar for private yachts to follow. She is expected to be ready for delivery this summer, ready to embark on her maiden voyage and set new standards for eco-conscious exploration.
