It was a thrilling scene as eight teams took to the water at Queen Mary SC, hosted by Royal Thames YC, to compete in the UK Match Racing Qualifier 1 on the weekend of 21/22 February. All teams aimed to secure their spot in the highly-anticipated National Match Racing Championship Grand Final in the Autumn. The race was full of adrenaline, presenting challenges not just in team boat handling but also in strategic decision making. A double round robin intensify the competition, with rapid-fire races continually unfolding. While many of the early races were tight, Hamish Taylor’s team concluded Round Robin 1 undefeated, leaving lower places passionately contested.
The furious waves of the sea carry tales of courage in their depths and the thrill of victory on their crests. Among such narratives is the compelling story of Francesca Clapcich and William Harris, who recently clinched second place were at the Transat Café L’OR in the IMOCA division.
Every waking moment leading up to their performance was a busy whirlwind, filled with challenges, hard work, and endless preparation. Between the Course des Caps, The Ocean Race Europe, and the recent Transat Café L’OR, their collective efforts were intense and non-stop. Not to mention their participation in the Ocean Fifty Grand Prix at the beginning of the year, a memory they cherish as they sail through their seafaring journey.
