Launched into a world still reeling from COVID-19 delays, it’s a statement in steel and sail—90% of its 4,500-tonne frame sourced from Ukraine’s Metinvest, built to conquer Arctic chills or Caribbean heatwaves.

Among the confirmed ships, the Sørlandet, a Norwegian fully rigged ship, stands out. Hailing from Kristiansand, it’s one of the oldest and most iconic tall ships, built in 1927. Measuring 56.7 meters in length with a 48-meter mast height, Sørlandet can accommodate up to 70 trainees. Captain Tore Skjelbred-Knudsen, a Kristiansand native, expressed pride in commanding the ship during its Aberdeen stop, emphasising its role in showcasing maritime heritage. Another notable vessel, the Wylde Swan, a Dutch topsail schooner, will also join the fleet.

Tragedy on the Hudson: Mexico’s Tall Ship Cuauhtémoc Collides with Brooklyn Bridge
New York City, May 17, 2025 — It was meant to be a pageant of naval heritage and international friendship. Instead, Saturday evening saw a dramatic and deeply tragic turn of events on the East River. The Mexican Navy’s iconic tall ship, the Cuauhtémoc, a vision of white sails and brass-polished tradition, collided with the understructure of the Brooklyn Bridge—leaving two dead, 19 injured, and a nation in mourning.

A Royal Navy warship and a tall ship will be attending and participating in the 38th Falmouth Classics Regatta from 13th – 15th June.
HMS Express, number 163, one of sixteen Archer Class P2000 fast patrol boats and assigned to the Devonport based Coastal Forces Squadron will be in the Port of Falmouth during the Classics Regatta.
