Although some have yet to qualify and there will be inevitable attrition, at present 464 yachts are entered of which a record 407 are in the IRC fleet, compared with 358 IRC yachts from 430 starters in 2023. Currently, boats are registered from 33 countries, including Brazil, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Australia, New Zealand and Turkey, but with the majority from the UK (160) and France (130). Their crews are even more international, from 41 countries, including French Polynesia, Rwanda and Zimbabwe, with competitors ranging in age from 14 to 81.

Italy has a long and sometimes torrid love affair with the Admiral’s Cup. Italian teams competed in every Admiral’s Cup from 1969 to 1999, marking a strong and consistent presence. The nation’s sole victory came in 1995 when the Italian team claimed the prestigious trophy with a powerful trio: Ranaldo Del Bono’s Capricorno in the Big Boat class, Pasquale Landolfi’s Brava Q8 in the ILC40s, and Paolo Gaia’s Mumm a’Mia in the Mumm 36 class.

The Tall Ship Races 2025, commencing on July 4 in Le Havre, France, and concluding on August 9 in Esbjerg, Denmark, is a grand maritime event featuring a fleet of majestic tall ships racing across the English Channel and North Sea. Organised by Sail Training International, the event includes four competitive races and a scenic Cruise-in-Company, stopping at Le Havre (July 4–7), Dunkirk (July 10–13), Aberdeen (July 19–22), Kristiansand (July 30–August 2), and Esbjerg (August 6–9). Around 6 to 10 tall ships are expected to participate, plus around 50 vessels, including 14 Class A ships, making it the largest fleet gathering of the series. The event emphasises youth development, with 100 young trainees aged 15–25 to sail from Dunkirk to Aberdeen or Aberdeen to Kristiansand.
