Net-Zero Articles
The luminaries of the superyacht world are charting a bold and sustainability-focused course to a future of net zero emissions by the year 2050. Leaders and stakeholders across the diverse stages of a superyacht’s lifecycle came together to shed light on the mechanisms and actions required to hit this lofty target. The game plan was introduced by Vienna Eleuteri, the visionary behind Water Revolution Foundation, who championed the ‘3R’ model for sustainability.
‘Reduce, Remove, Restore’ - the 3R model sets clear goals. The ‘reduce’ element aims at minimizing the negative impacts across all stages of a yacht’s life, such as improving on-board system efficiencies and utilizing low-emission power methods. ‘Remove’ involves embracing bio-based build materials and biofuels. ‘Restore’ calls for active investments in ecosystem restoration to achieve net-zero outcomes, an imperative upshot of which is blue carbon development throughout marine environments.
