Lurssen Articles
The pioneering 114.2-metre Lürssen superyacht, Project Cosmos, has set sail for its sea trials near Kiel, Germany. With its cutting-edge fuel-cell technology, it stands as one of the first yachts in the world to venture into this technological frontier. The vessel was last spotted at her launch in August, which revealed exciting details about her innovative fuel-cell capabilities, unique structure, and captivating design.
At the request of the owner, Lürssen installed two 500kW methanol fuel cells into Project Cosmos. This technological leap allows the superyacht to cruise at seven knots for up to 1,000 nautical miles. Described as a ’technologically challenging procedure,’ it has set a new bar in sustainable luxury yachting. Despite its innovative fuel-cell technology, Project Cosmos still includes the traditional diesel generators, engines, and fuel storage facilities often found on superyachts.
