Olympic Talent, and Unpredictable Winds in Balatonfüred

From the very first boat arriving at the Balatonfüredi Yacht Club, it was clear that this year’s edition would be a record-breaker. The ILCA 4 class (formerly Laser 4.7) was the star of the show, with 84 entries, making it the largest fleet of the event. The ILCA 6 class drew international attention with high-profile sailors including Nethra Kumanan (India), the first Indian woman to qualify for the Olympic Games in sailing, Ameena Shah (Kuwait), and Ines Gmati (Tunisia).

Laserfest 2025 Shines at Whitstable Yacht Club, Attracting a Stellar Fleet of 40 Laser/ILCA Sailboats

The windy shores of Whitstable Yacht Club reverberated with spirited competition as it hosted Laserfest 2025, a celebration of Laser/ILCA racing. With an impressive line-up of 40 boats, the event not only boosted the sailing participation of Whitstable’s local sailors, but also wooed entries from clubs as far-flung as Yorkshire.

The opening day saw an east-blowing F3 to F4/5 wind, accompanied by clear skies. These conditions were a boon for the race management team, steered by PRO Tom Bruton, who launched five consecutive sprint races of 20-30 minutes duration each. Competitors returned in time to catch the Wimbledon women’s final.
