At the head of the fleet is Bryon Ehrhart’s 88-foot Lucky (formerly Rambler 88), chewing through the final 350 miles in big breezes, clocking over 400 miles in a day. Despite starting nearly four days after the first batch, Lucky’s aiming squarely at the Barn Door Trophy for fastest elapsed time. Navigator Stan Honey predicts landfall in the early hours of Friday, July 11. The prestigious King Kalakaua Trophy, awarded for best corrected time, remains undecided until the last boat finishes.

TRANSPAC 2025 UNDERWAY Four divisions began racing at 1320, local time, on the waters off of Los Angeles’s Point Fermin. Organised by the Transpacific Yacht Club, the biennial event is considered one of the world’s premier ocean races. It uses three pursuit-style starts spread over five days (July 1, 3, and 5, 2025) to help all 53 boats finish within days of each other at Honolulu’s Diamond Head. With boats ranging from 35 to 88 feet, the staggered starts favour smaller vessels first so the fleet can make landfall in Hawaii around the same time.
