As the regatta unfolded, winnings were momentarily intercepted when Robert Scheidt and Austin Sperry stole the limelight, crossing the finish line first in the fourth race. The Flying Dutchman Australian Championship 2026, hosted on the beautiful waters of Lake King, Metung, set sail amidst an atmosphere of high energy and competition. Day one saw participants taking on an engaging triangular course, with 13 boats sailing for gold.
Four-time-world champions Peter Bevis and Ian McCrossin were among the leaders after the initial day. However, the competition was heating up with two races already completed on day one. Mark Henger and Matt Bismarck, the reigning Australian and New Zealand champions, managed to reach the windward gates first in race one.
