Fresh Prospects and Anticipation High as 12ft Skiff Fleet Readies for New South Wales Championship
The captivating allure of competitive sailing reaches fever pitch as preparations intensify for the New South Wales Championship. The 12ft skiff fleet, renowned for its competitive spirit and exciting engagement, has the stage set for an event spread over four adrenaline-fuelled days across two weekends - 29 and 30 November at Sydney Flying Squadron and 6 and 7 December out of Lane Cove 12ft Sailing Skiff Club (LCSSC). As the sailors leave the whirl of the NSW Upper Harbour and Paramatta River Championships in their wake, they now look onward, tuning up for their next battle on the water.
Saul and Mercer, whose roots lie in the Cherub class, are engrossed in the humbling yet invigorating experience of learning: “It’s good to be scared again. I feel like a little kid starting out sailing again,” Saul cheerily shares. Having outgrown his Cherub, Saul now enjoys honing his skills on the 12ft skiff, despite the steep learning curve. This duo’s dedication and shared ardour reflect the pulsating heart of competitive sailing: “It’s addictive. I’m more than happy to die sailing these boats. I couldn’t ask for anything better,” Saul exclaims with a glowing endorsement of the sport.
The upcoming New South Wales Championship is bound to unleash a tide of intense competition, throwing sporting enthusiasts into a gale of excitement. Hold fast, fair winds for adventurous seafarers are on the horizon.
