The competition heaved up at the Huntingdon Radio Yacht Club, with a nail-biting finish at the 3rd round of the DF95 Eastern District Champion Skipper Series.

In the bright morning sunlight, seventeen skippers assembled at the Huntingdon Radio Yacht Club and were welcomed by the Club Commodore, Martin Brooking. Some competitors had completed round journeys of up to 350 miles, a testament to their dedication to the sport. The event PRO, Dave Green, set the stage with a comprehensive briefing, outlining a straightforward Triangle course.

A nod of applause to the novice skippers who were committed to the competition. One of their own, Stuart Brown, was only in his third day with a boat. These novices not only enjoyed the experience but did commendably well in keeping up with the race pace.

The competition resumed with even higher spirits, all competitors exhibiting fair sportsmanship and compliance with the rules, making the half-day a unique showcase of radio sailing at its best. Oli Knowland from Alton Water, had by then skillfully positioned himself as a leading contender for the title.

The races carried on with Dave Green keeping the momentum up throughout the afternoon. By the end of the 19th race, only a single point separated the top competitors. Eventually, the local skipper, Andy Johnson, clinched victory in an inspiring finish with Oli Knowland coming in a close second.

The event was wrapped up with hearty congratulations to all participants for their unyielding spirit and anticipation for the next year’s competition.
